District Award Dinner:
Eastern
Oregon District Awards Dinner 2008—A Great Success! On March
7th, we held our first annual District Dinner --the beginning of a
new tradition! We are grateful to everyone who was able to attend, and would
like to especially thank all those who made this night possible. The recipients
of our Eastern Oregon District Awards are as
follows: District Award of
Merit: Janice Harris and Ariel Miller Scouter of the
Year: Russel West Scoutmaster of the
Year: Robby Porter Rookie Boy Scouter
of the Year: Ron Miles Rookie Cub Scouter
of the Year: Kirk Leonard Cub Scouters of
the Year: Sandra Morehead and Jessie Wilson Judge Greg Baxter
did a fantastic job as the motivational speaker for the event, and really
helped emphasize how important the impact Scouting has in our community and on
our local youth Eddie Hibbard, our
District Commissioner, was the Master of Ceremonies and Boy Scout Troops 450
and 452 helped with Flag Ceremony and everyone did a wonderful job.
Randy Newman, his
wife, and his neighbor catered the meal for us and it was delicious. We
couldn’t have asked for better food! It was greatly enjoyed by all in
attendance. As we look forward to next year’s dinner,
let’s focus on recognizing our outstanding volunteers at every level of
service. Creative awards can also be given out such as: “The Spark Plug Award”
for the one who puts a spark into the program. Think about the different
volunteers you work with in your Scout unit and be sure to nominate them for
an award so we can recognize their efforts. See you in March 2009!
