What would you do with over $9,000?

That is the amount that Pack 249 earned from participating in the popcorn sale last year for their unit program.
Why sell popcorn besides earning up to $9,000 or more?

  1. It's easy. The Trail's End program is designed to be simple and easy to administer. The basic premise of the program is for Scouts, Scouters and families to take orders, and then distribute the products to the customers.

  2. One Fundraiser for the Entire Year. With Trail's End popcorn and the Ideal Scouting Year concept, you can plan on doing just one fundraiser to meet all of your Scouting needs. For example, Pack 249 of the Rattlesnake Ridge District sold $19,000 worth of Popcorn in 2007. Of that they were able to keep over $9,000 to meet the needs of a very active year of Cub Scouting through one fundraiser!

  3. High Commissions. Up to 47% of your sales goes directly into your unit account. This money can be used to go camping, for advancements, volunteer training or for any other needs that you may have during your Ideal Year of Scouting.

  4. No out of Pocket Expenses for Unit. Since all sales are done through orders, there are no upfront expenses for the unit.

  5. Your Support Team. The Blue Mountain Council is committed to making this campaign successful for you and your families. The volunteer and professional support system is extensive and excited to serve.

  6. High Quality Product. Trail's End popcorn is part of the Weaver Popcorn Company (established in 1928), which is one of the world's largest popcorn producers.  They are committed to customer satisfaction and to the success of your individual unit campaign. Check them out at    www.trails-end.com

7.       Prize Programs. To help with your campaign, an exciting prize incentive program has been developed. This program will help you recognize your Scouts for outstanding sales efforts and will help you realize your goal of an Ideal Year in Scouting. Coleman, BSA Scoutstuff.org, Wal-Mart, Games & Gadgets Web gift cards are available as well as a prize drawing.

Note on change in unit commission structure:

Over the past several years, overall funding from the United Way has decreased throughout the entire area of the council.  In 2007 alone, the decrease from the largest United Way was 20%.  In order to maintain and continue to improve the services to the local units and Chartered Partners in the Blue Mountain Council, we have had to revise the commission chart in order to help fulfill those much needed services.

The goal of the popcorn sale is to raise the needed funds to support the Scouting program and to help the units who participate in the sale fund their entire program year of Scouting.

Each year the popcorn commission structure is reviewed.

Planning Tools:

Unit Budget Planning Spreadsheet (Excel)- This is an Excel spreadsheet designed to help you project what funds you would need to raise to pay for an “Ideal Year of Scouting” which is a fully funded Scouting program year for your unit.  You just need to plug in the estimates on cost and number of Scouts.

Another resource for planning can be found by clicking on " Ideal Year of Scouting ".  This provided by Trail’s End as a resource in planning.  It does a require login name and password.  You can create an account.

Online Training:

We are currently scheduling training opportunities for each district's unit kernels so they have the tools to help the unit raise enough funds for their entire program year.

Some online training for leaders, parents and Scouts is provided by Trail's End.  This is not in place of the trainings being held.  Click here to begin.
