The Order of the Arrow (OA) is an official program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is the BSA's National honor society for experienced campers, based on Native American traditions, and dedicated to the ideal of cheerful service. Members of the OA are called Arrowmen.
The purpose of the Order of the Arrow is fourfold:
- To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives
- To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit
- To promote Scout camping
- To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others
The Blue Mountain Councils OA Lodge is Wa-La-Moot-Kin 336. The Lodge serves the council by helping maintain the council camp -- Wallowa and other council properties as well as providing staff for camporees, Cub Scout residence camps, etc.
The OA also provides outstanding leadership and activity opportunities that attract boys to remain active in Scouting through their high school years and on into college. A boy can be a youth member until he is 21.
